A Nap and a Rest

Today in The Guardian newspaper, it was reported that a daily nap could help reduce blood pressure and even diminish the chances of heart attack. Tests on middle aged people in Athens Greece indicated lower blood pressure among those who had a mid day snooze as opposed to those who stayed awake all day.

This doesn’t come as a big surprise to me. While I don’t take a mid day nap, I take a few moments each day, sometimes as little as ten minutes, to completely relax. Find a comfortable place. Close your eyes. Focus on your breathing. You’ll begin to feel calmer almost right away. Breathing deepens. Heart rate slows slightly and feel much more at ease. A mid day nap seems to be a good idea, but even 10 minutes a day to completely relax will help a person manage stress and generally feel better. Slow down and have more energy.
