Lib Dem Pledge

Recently, Deputy Prime Minister and Leader of the Liberal Democrats, Nick Clegg, announced that his government would pledge £150 million to helping young people with mental health issues. The mental health issues specifically mentioned were anorexia and bulimia. This is an encouraging announcement, an announcement that recognizes the severity of the issues involved and that government can and should play a significant role in alleviating these very distressing conditions. The difficulty lies in the fact that the Liberal Democrats have virtually no chance of forming a government after the next election in 2015, but there is a very slim chance that the Lib Dems might find themselves back in a coalition government. If they find themselves in a coalition government, they may be able to follow through on the pledge in light of the implementation of universal free meals for primary schools (Key Stage 1). It will be interesting to wee if either the Conservatives or Labour make similar pledges in the run up to the 2015 General Election.
