Not Enough Sleep

A recent report by the National Sleep Foundation highlights the importance of sleep to good health. We all need a healthy diet and exercise, but a consistent good night’s sleep is just as important as the previous two.The Foundation provided recommendations as to how much we need based within nine age-specific groups. It turns out that everyone over the age of 18 needs at least 7 hours of sleep a day with 9 hours being a good upper limit. The report also highlighted what might happen if a person doesn’t get enough sleep and the possible negative effects on health that include lack of alertness, impaired memory, relationship stress and a general diminishing quality of life. There were several other negative health related issues that result from chronic sleep deprivation. Evidently, we need to make a good night’s sleep a priority.
