Stress in the Police Force.

On April 5th, the BBC reported that cases of UK Police Officers and staff taking long term sick leave for psychological reasons has risen by 35% over the last 5 years. These are statistics obtained by BBC Radio 5 Live.

These figures were released under the Freedom of Information Act and the information was provided by 40 different Police forces across the UK. Ironically, the Police workforce is shrinking at the same time.

Chief Donald of the Police Federation, stated that there have been “unprecedented cuts to police force numbers while demand has not decreased”. No wonder members of the UK Police Force are feeling the results of severe stress despite £10 million allocated to mental health support in the 2014. There must be more funding for the Police Force and more funding for help for mental health issues in the Police Force.
