It’s been reported in the UK media that the number of reported incidences of child sexual abuse has risen very dramatically in the last year. Are more children being sexually abused today than a year ago? Sadly, children have always been abused and the case of Jimmy Saville is a case in point. Today young people are coming forward with greater confidence that they will be taken seriously and law enforcement authorities are documenting these cases much more thoroughly. People feel much more empowered to come forward as convictions are on the rise. The scourge of child sexual exploitation and abuse must end, and these steps within law enforcement are positive steps.
