Help For The Young

The BBC reported this week that there’s evidence that there aren’t nearly enough resources to help young people with severe mental health issues. GPs have come forward to admit that while they see young people who need help with mental health issues, they, the GPs, know there aren’t enough dedicated facilities and not nearly enough trained staff to deal with the numbers of young people who need help. A young woman was interviewed who admitted she self harmed to draw attention to her issues and thus get the help she needed. She felt that otherwise she was either ignored or faced the prospect of waiting more then half a year for any help. This situation must change. There must be more funding within the NHS. In fact, funding needs to return to levels that existed up until just a few years ago. The NHS must not let down young people with mental health issues.
